Art competition

I've just been invited to take part in a competition, not sure if its real or not... http://www.artistshavengallery.com/events/

RockBand finished!

Well, I knew these would be fairly quick to do, but I didn't realise just how quick, as I've finished them!

I may go over the green and purple ones again, to be completely sure I have the colours right - they all graduate a little from top to bottom. Otherwise, they're done, and I'll be posting them off tomorrow.

Here they are:

Mike:

Drums:

Guitar:

Keyboard:

Bass:

This has given me an idea for a child's Play painting - I think I'll do a shot of all five images, like this one, for the auction in December:

I have a canvas that's just the right dimensions, and I'll have a think about the background colours.

Rock Band painting started

I've painted in the black on each icon, I'll do the colours tomorrow.

These have been fun - fairly easy to do, except for keeping the black lines the right thickness, and making sure there were no gaps in the paint.

I'll be tidying up the edges with ink later on today, or maybe tomorrow after I've painted the colours in.

Keyboard and Bass:

Guitar:

Rock Band started

Last night, I drew the outline for the RockBand images:

Guitar and keyboard:

I expect I'll start painting them later on today.

Rock Band icons

These 5 pictures are what I'm painting next - the person these are for has asked for them to be painted onto 5 12" square canvases, instead of the normal size I do.

They should be fairly straightforward to do, as a) the icons are very simple, and b) the resolution of the images is great.

I love RockBand, got The Beatles kit for my birthday last year, and played the keyboard at Eurogamer in October (I played tears for Fears, Everybody wants to rule the world, such fun). I can't play the guitars, though, cos they're nothing like playing a real guitar, but I love drumming!

Okami River Heaven finished

I had almost finished this yesterday, but then had to sort out some car insurance that took over an hour to do, and ate into painting time. I was up very early this morning, so used the time to finish off the wolf.

here's the whole thing:

Here's the top half:

And here's the bottom half:

I loved painting this, okami is such a joy to paint! I'm not sure what I'm painting next to commission - I'm still waiting to hear what the next person wants, so I'll be painting something for myself next.

More okami done

I'm off work this week, on annual leave, so I've been able to crack on with this painting a bit. I think I'll have it finished tomorrow.

then a bit more done:

I'm leaving all the white until the last, as I don't want to get those bits dirty. I'll be doing the waterfalls next, in the morning.

Starting okami

Its an exciting day, today, not only am I starting painting one of my favourite styles, I'm also using new brushes!

I had some new paint brushes for Christmas - I'm a dreadful hoarder of brushes, find it hard to throw old ones away, but the time had come for some new ones.

I prefer painting with sable brushes - I know acrylic paint damages them, but I love how they feel to paint with, how they load colour, and how the paint just flows. I do have some acrylic brushes, but they're a bit stiff and not as flexible.

Here's my new brushes on the right, with an acrylic brush on the left:

And here's the start of okami:

The sky:

Then here's the start of the river:

And here is down to the rocks done. I'll be painting the stars last, when the rest of the painting is finished.

River Heaven pencil outline

Here it is - I had to buy some new canvases, as I'd ran out to 40cm x 60 cm, and the ratio of this image is 2:3, so a 40cm x 50cm canvas wouldn't have done. Normally, I just expand the sides or top and bottom a little, but that would have changed the image significantly, so it was better to buy another canvas. I seem to have quite a few square canvases sat waiting for the right sized image ...

Here's the whole canvas:

And here's a close-up of the top:

and the bottom:

I'm looking forward to painting this one - I absolutely love the style of okami, its such a shame I didn't like playing it, because it is just beautiful to look at.

Another Okami painting

Here's the image I'm painting next:

I love okami artwork, its so beautiful, I know I'm really going to enjoy this one! I'm going to start the pencil outline this afternoon.

Super Mario Galaxy is finished!

Here it is, I really enjoyed painting Mario, it was such fun!

And here's a close-up of each side:

The bounce of the flash on my camera makes the centre of each photo lighter than it really is, so try to ignore that!

Mario is wending his way to Birmingham, UK today, should arrive on Monday. Its only the 4th painting I've posted within the UK, most of my paintings end up in America, although I have sent a couple to Australia and Japan!

Super Mario nearly done

I've been painting for most of the morning, and have made progress! I've finished the planets and the black hole, and have started on Mario:

This one is such good fun to paint.

SMG update

I'm really enjoying painting this, the colours are so pretty, and I keep hearing Mario's voice in my head shouting "Wheheeeeeeeee!" as he shoots from one world to the next!

I've done a bit more, the swoosh was fun:

Then I decided to paint the star as well

I'm supposed to be going to a pre-launch 3DS event this afternoon, if I do, I won't be painting, and I've been told they only have 1 stylus controlled game available to play, so I'm not sure about going at all.

Super Mario Galaxy started

As the title says, I've been busy!

Here's the start of SMG - love this game, and am having fun painting it!

Here's the start of the sky - the blue I'm using is translucent, so I'm going to be overpainting it:

Here it is again, overpainted:

I'll be doing some more in the next couple of days.

Link's Awakening by camera, not phone!

Here's the finished picture, this time taken with my camera, not my phone! I'm learning new stuff - I can now take photos off the SD card in my camera without Lewie's help, I'm becoming more technically independent!

The finished picture:

Close-up of the top half:

Close-up of the bottom half:

I know I've said this already, but I loved painting this picture - the colours are so beautiful, it was just lovely to do! I think this has been one of my favourites to paint, so far!
